At the maximum of the solar eclipse, the Moon covered about 80–85% of the Sun’s disk, and the most beautiful views in Lithuania were recorded precisely at the seaside. Here were the best viewing conditions – the Sun was setting on a completely open Western horizon.

The crowd did not diminish either after the solar eclipse or after sunset. People who had just arrived after the concerts of Merūnas Vitulskis or the anniversary group “Rondo” in the resort that evening were drawn to walk along the night bridge.

He created his own instrument
Even more drama was added to the astronomical event by the fatal music playing in the background. The unique atmosphere was created by professional pianist Dzmitry Khilmanas.
“Lithuania is like a second homeland to me,” Dzmitry Khilmanas admits. He grew up in Belarus but has been visiting Lithuania since childhood because his aunt, married to a Lithuanian, and his brother live in Kaunas. Dzmitry spent almost every summer here with him.
Having started playing in Palanga almost a decade ago, today he delights audiences in Western Europe and Scandinavia. He calls his performances in open spaces simply “Air concerts.”

The ingenious man partly created his own instrument: the external parts were bought in a store, but inside he took care of the entire system, mechanics, and acoustics himself. You definitely won’t find a second one like this in a store.
“Tonight the solar eclipse was in the foreground, and I was in the background,” Dzmitry joked to Žmonės.lt and assured that he himself felt the influence of some otherworldly forces: the piano turned off three times during the evening.

For the occasion, the musician selected a special repertoire: more dramatic, magical, fatal. Not only classical and popular melodies were played, but also music from various films. For the climax of the eclipse, the man chose Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata.
