The National Statistics Office stated in its report that the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.4% in the April–June period, compared to a 0.6% growth in the previous quarter.

Sir Keir Starmer resigned from the position of Prime Minister at the end of June, and about a month later he was replaced by Andy Burnham.
Responding to the data released on Thursday, the new Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey said that under A. Burnham’s leadership, the Labour Party is “an active government that primarily defends Britain’s interests – providing relief to those who are struggling, making our country more resilient, and restoring hope.”
The British, already suffering from high inflation, are seeing the situation worsen as energy prices have sharply risen due to the war between the US and Iran.
“I know people are worried about the impact of the Middle East conflict on their living costs, which have already been too high for too long and are putting even more pressure on British businesses,” said J. Healey.
The latest GDP data showed that the services sector grew by 0.5% in the second quarter, the construction sector also grew, while industrial production volumes remained stable.
“(Overall) growth slowed in the second quarter after a strong start to the year but remained relatively robust,” said National Statistics Office representative Liz McKeown. “The services sector once again became the main driver of growth.”
