Returned to his duties
Last week, the prosecutor of the Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office, who is leading the pre-trial investigation into the murder of a paramedic from Panevėžys, made a decision to change the preventive measure for one of the suspects – Biržai Hospital doctor E. Gaigalas.
After this decision, “Biržiečių žodis” asked the head of Biržai Hospital, P. Bimba, whether the medic would be able to return to work at the hospital.
“I currently have no written notice from the prosecutor’s office about what restrictions will or will not be applied to the doctor (E. Gaigalas – editor’s note). For now, until I have such a document, I cannot make any decision. The doctor will continue to work as he did before, will return to his duties, unless I receive a letter that some other decision must be made,” P. Bimba commented to “Biržiečių žodis”.
Later, the head of Biržai Hospital confirmed to “Biržiečių žodis” that he had not received any documents from law enforcement agencies stating that E. Gaigalas was prohibited from performing his duties. Therefore, the doctor returned to his usual work routine and is working again at Biržai Hospital.
Detention replaced by milder measures
E. Gaigalas was released from detention on August 6.
“Considering that the objectives of the process can be achieved with milder preventive measures, the mentioned person was released from detention on August 6 of this year, having been assigned two other preventive measures – a bail of 10,000 euros and a written promise not to leave,” the prosecutor’s office press release states.
E. Gaigalas was detained for a month on July 10, with the Panevėžys District Court partially granting the prosecutor’s request. Prosecutor Lukas Krivickas requested his detention for two months.
The suspect was detained in Biržai on July 8.
E. Gaigalas is charged with illegal possession of ammunition and illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances. During a search, psychotropic drugs linked by law enforcement to the investigated murder were found on him, as well as about 50 rounds of various calibers and materials resembling explosives.
The paramedic’s body was found buried
E. Gaigalas is the father of Justina Sadauskienė (Gaigalaitė), the spouse of M. Sadauskas.
Justina Sadauskienė and her friend Vilius Solkanas are charged with murder and illegal deprivation of liberty. They are detained until September 21.
In the case, V. Solkanas’s father, Ilja Solkanas, is also suspected of illegal possession of a firearm. He was assigned a bail of 5,000 euros.
Emergency medical service worker M. Sadauskas disappeared on the morning of April 20 when he went to Paliukai village in the Panevėžys district to install a rented trampoline.
The next day, a buried man’s body was found at one of the homesteads in this village. A firearm was also found at the homestead. It was established that the man was shot and was also beaten before death.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the crime may have been committed due to personal disagreements. During the paramedic’s murder, a divorce process between M. Sadauskas and J. Sadauskienė was ongoing, which was terminated after one of the spouses died.
