Prime Minister: need to reduce bureaucracy for the defense industry, aim for greater company involvement

“Strengthening Lithuania’s security requires not only investing in the defense industry ourselves but also not burdening its development with excessive bureaucratic regulation and striving to ensure that as much production and economic value as possible is created in Lithuania. Needs are growing not only in our country but also in the region and the world, so the defense industry must be seen as important not only for Lithuania’s supply but also for export,” M. Sinkevičius said in a statement.

On Wednesday, a working group meeting was held to promote and coordinate the development of the National Defense Industry.

The meeting emphasized the need to involve Lithuanian companies as widely as possible in development and supply chains, aiming not only for greater security but also for increasing the economic value created in the country and the development of technological competencies, according to a government statement.

The meeting discussed the progress of key projects, the regulatory environment encouraging investment in the defense industry, and issues of cooperation between ministries.

The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of partnership between ministries and other institutions to increase the speed of project implementation from the initial initiative to their finalization and the creation of the final product.
