The book publishes the written legacy of the prominent Lithuanian public figure, founder of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union Vladas Putvinskis (1873 10 06–1929 03 05), which has been preserved until now in the Šiauliai “Aušra” Museum.

For the first time, the first volume of V. Putvinskis’s writings, which was never published until 1940, is published, and his journalistic articles on political and social issues published in 1933 in the second volume are reprinted. They pay much attention to the Riflemen’s Union and the dissemination of riflemen ideology.
Both volumes are published with explanations, clarifications, and expansions of the facts mentioned in them. At the same time, insights into V. Putvinskis’s activities and their significance, as well as the history of the creation and publication of his writings, are presented to the reader.
“In the 21st century, the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union created by Vladas Putvinskis and his comrades has strong positions in Lithuania, so I dare to guess that the ‘father of the riflemen’ looks at his creation from above with a philosophical gaze, slowly twirling his mustache, lighting his pipe, and rejoicing in what has been accomplished,” writes the book’s preparer and compiler M. Nefas in the introductory article.
V. Putvinskis’s writings and insights into his activities make his thoughts relevant to today’s society, encouraging more active involvement not only in this riflemen organization but also in other ways to contribute to the country’s security and strengthening its defense.
