“At the meeting with the Lithuanian Agricultural Council, the planned compensation mechanism for increased energy prices will be presented,” said Prime Minister’s representative Gedas Salyga in a comment to BNS.
The meeting will also seek solutions on how to promote and expand the processing of agricultural products in Lithuania, discuss Lithuania’s position in negotiations on the EU multiannual financial framework, and other issues.
BNS wrote that 9.788 million euros of European Union (EU) support from the agricultural reserve is planned to be allocated for Lithuanian farmers’ compensations due to increased fertilizer and fuel prices.
With the European Commission intending to reduce funding for agriculture from 2027, including 20% lower direct payments to Lithuania, presidential advisor Ramūnas Dilba said in April that the Government must strive for similar payments for all Community farmers.

The chairman of the Agricultural Council, Jonas Vilionis, demanded in April the same conditions as other EU farmers and said that farmers are in a critical situation and do not rule out the possibility of protesting.
Last autumn, farmers from Lithuania and other EU countries protested against the EC’s intention to reduce funding for farmers from 2027. Farmers from all over Europe united in opposition to the proposed changes to the Common Agricultural Policy, budget cuts, unfair EU trade policy, and bureaucracy.
BNS wrote that Lithuania is expected to receive 4.386 billion euros in 2028–2034, which is 20% less than in the previous financial perspective (5.485 billion euros).
