This is one of the symptoms of polyneuropathy – multiple peripheral nerve damage of various origins. On the portal manodaktaras.lt, we discuss with Associate Professor Dr. Aleksandras Vilionskis, a neurologist at the Republican Vilnius University Hospital, how this disease develops and what treatment methods are applied.
Polyneuropathies can differ according to the affected nerves, i.e., they can be sensory, motor, sensorimotor, and according to the course – acute, subacute, and chronic. In sensory polyneuropathies, according to the neurologist, the sensory fibers of the peripheral nerves are most affected, while in motor polyneuropathies – the motor fibers.
“Timely and accurate diagnosis of polyneuropathy allows earlier treatment application, but sometimes even with an accurate diagnosis of polyneuropathy, desired treatment results cannot be achieved in all cases,” said Dr. A. Vilionskis.
