The storm also caused significant damage in the Šalčininkai district, affecting residents of both Eišiškės and the surrounding areas.

Elder: residents are in shock

The local elder M. Bogdiun told 15min on Thursday evening that he had been driving around the eldership and inspecting the storm’s aftermath. He also shared a few photos.

Here is a recently renovated apartment building in Eišiškės. During the storm, a large birch tree fell on it, damaging the brand-new roof.

“The apartment building was renovated – probably last year, so it will need repairs,” said M. Bogdiun, adding that the residents of this apartment building are “in shock.”

Meanwhile, in the nearby village of Emeliškės, the wind tore off part of an apartment building’s roof. However, the exact damage can only be assessed the next day using a lift.

“It’s hard to assess anything now. We will need to raise the lift higher – then we will see what the damage is,” said the elder of Eišiškės.

According to him, another private house in the village was also damaged – the wind “tore off” a couple of sheets of slate: “it will need repairs, the damage is small, but if the rain comes in, it will leak there.”

The elder also said that the storm knocked down many trees – some roads are blocked, but most of the fallen trees are along the roadsides.
