V. Zelensky, who has traveled most of the world seeking support for Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion, had not visited Serbia since becoming president in 2019.
Serbia is considered one of the most pro-Moscow countries in Europe.
It has not imposed sanctions on Russia for the invasion that began in 2022 and maintains close ties with Moscow in the energy sector.
President Aleksandar Vučić met with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and called for strengthening cooperation and trade.
Serbia officially seeks to join the European Union, although Brussels views its warm ties with Moscow negatively.
