According to “BasketNews” journalist Tomas Vanagas, a decision was made at the LKL board meeting to introduce a new rule starting from the upcoming season. Now players, when throwing the ball out of bounds, will more often be allowed not to pass it to the referee.
This decision was made due to a faster pace and the need to shorten games, which used to last several hours.

LKL became the second league to introduce this rule. The first was the ACB (Spanish league).
