The Zarasai region and the city itself have become an integral part of the motorsport culture – rally enthusiasts visited here in spring and early summer, and next weekend Sėlių Square will be filled with athletes who love asphalt surfaces and their cars.

Zarasai’s inclusion in the Lithuanian slalom championship is no coincidence – the founder of the stage organizer “Motorsport Promoter” is originally from Zarasai, so bringing a beautiful motorsport event home had been a decision in the making for some time.

And this decision has proven very successful – the uniquely beautiful Sėlių Square provides an excellent space for such an event, and the streets winding around it are perfect for fast and technical slalom track configurations. The races held in the city center are especially convenient for spectators, who are protected from the often early August heat by lush deciduous trees. The youngest slalom spectators will also have activities – children will be able to try themselves on a mini slalom track with an electric toy car.

On August 8, the best slalom masters from all over Lithuania will arrive in Zarasai. Applications have been submitted by 76 athletes, divided into FWD, RWD, AWD, OC, Women, Youth, and Guest classes.

In the front-wheel-drive car class (FWD), after three stages, Mantas Karženauskas, representing the “LADASPORT” motorsport club and driving a VW Golf, leads by 5 points. The competition in the rear-wheel-drive car class (RWD) is fiercer – only two points separate first and fourth places, and currently, the leader is Edvinas Sabalys from the “Slalomo Akademija powered by Finišas.lt” team, racing with an exotic Subaru BRZ.

In the all-wheel-drive car class (AWD), Aivaras Valentinavičius representing “LADASPORT” confidently leads with a maneuverable Toyota GR Yaris. Among women, Sandra Grigaitytė, racing under the “LADASPORT” flag with a Mitsubishi Colt, has accumulated the most points in Molėtai, Gustoniai, and Šakiai, leading by three points over Greta Šaduikytė, who is trying to tame the gravel element in rally discipline this year and has finished second three times.

Speaking of rally – the youth class leader Majus Braškys with a BMW E46, representing “Jakų ASK,” has a very intense gravel program. Having won all the first three stages, he has a 13-point lead. A similar situation exists in the open class (OC), where “LADASPORT” racer Igoris Aleksejevič, skillfully handling a unique Ford Sierra, has built a nineteen-point reserve.

Participants will gather at Sėlių Square from early morning on August 8 – registration and the administrative commission will start at 7:30, and ten minutes later, a representative of the technical commission will begin checking whether the racers’ equipment meets class and safety requirements, while the athletes will try to memorize the tricky slalom track winding around Sėlių Square on foot. The race starts at 10 a.m.
