“Regarding my statement that, in my opinion, this matter (the war) is coming to an end. I did not say this just like that, but based on the analysis of the situation on the battlefield, where our forces are advancing in all directions. You can see it yourselves – every day,” said V. Putin.

On May 9, V. Putin stated that he is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a third country, but only to sign the final agreement to end the war. He also said he believes that “the conflict in Ukraine is coming to an end.”
On May 12, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov explained V. Putin’s remarks about the alleged approaching end of the war with Ukraine, mentioning “progress” in the peace process and US mediation efforts, although he did not provide specific timelines.
