The Jurbarkas district police have detained a suspect in a fuel theft.
A report was received at the Jurbarkas district police commissariat of the Marijampolė County Chief Police Commissariat stating that on May 15, 2026, at about 21:55, a man arrived by passenger car (license plates were German) from the Kaunas side at the gas station owned by UAB “Gelvybė,” located at S. Šimkaus St. 69, Belvederio village, Seredžius eldership, Jurbarkas district municipality, filled up with 113.29 liters of diesel fuel costing 226.58 euros, and left without paying towards Kaunas city.

The gas station manager noticed that the man was filling a larger amount of fuel and blocked him with her car from the front, but the person suddenly fled in reverse, driving onto the main road, and sped off towards Kaunas city.
It was established that the license plates attached to the thief’s vehicle belong to a completely different vehicle, which is deregistered in Germany.

Officers of the Operations Department of the Jurbarkas district police commissariat, after extensive analytical work, identified the perpetrator of the theft as a resident of Kaunas district. It was also established that this person commits systematic fuel thefts of the same pattern.
On 2026-07-31 in Kaunas district, officers of the Operations Department of the Jurbarkas district police commissariat detained the mentioned person. The person was notified of suspicion under Article 178, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. The pre-trial investigation is led by the Marijampolė District Prosecutor’s Office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
