The film began development back in 2003, but for more than two decades it did not reach audiences due to a “far too intense” script. However, finally finding the perfect balance between a terrifyingly frightening story and slightly softening the visuals, “The Ice Cream Seller” has finally managed to carve a long-awaited path to movie theaters.

E. Roth is well acquainted with different forms of the horror genre: from torture horror to bloody massacres and psychological tension not everyone can handle. The director’s latest work sows fear where you would least expect it – among the sincere laughter of children, summer heat, and the sweet taste of ice cream.
“For years, people in the film industry told me: ‘You won’t succeed in making this film. It’s too sick, too cruel. You’ll never get into cinemas – horror and children on screen are an incompatible duo.’ But over the years, audiences have become bolder. There was ‘It,’ ‘Stranger Things’… The time has come when viewers themselves can decide if they are brave enough or ready to reach new heights of the horror genre,” E. Roth is convinced.
The aesthetic and narrative core of “The Ice Cream Seller” — everyday childhood objects (jump rope, “pin the tail” game, paper cutter) are turned into murder weapons here, creating a contrast between a sweet, nostalgic image and extreme horror.
“I am raising a teenage daughter myself and have no doubt that viewers who have children will experience the film even more intensely. But remember the shocking stories told in today’s documentaries about real life. Anything can happen here, anytime. And no one prepares us for it in advance. The same goes for this horror thriller – whether it can be too scary, let the viewers decide themselves. We eagerly await feedback,” the director smiles modestly before the premiere.

The latest, already the tenth work, “The Ice Cream Seller” will take viewers to a small American town where days pass boringly and quietly. But one summer afternoon, an ice cream truck never seen before appears. A cheerful melody, colorful ice creams, and a smiling seller instantly attract crowds of children. The line at the truck only grows longer, and parents have no idea that right before their eyes, so innocently, a real nightmare begins.
At first, everything seems beautiful – children laugh, ice cream melts in their hands, and the town is filled with a summery mood. But soon it becomes clear that there is something unnatural hidden in these ice creams. Something that slowly changes the children from the inside. One by one, they begin to turn into uncontrollable, bloodthirsty creatures, and the peaceful town is flooded with violence, panic, and brutal killings.
Demanding special psychological strength, the blood-curdling horror film “The Ice Cream Seller” will start showing in Lithuanian cinemas from this Friday, August 7.
