According to A. Iliukevičius, the formation of the new unit has already begun. So far, one battalion has been formed, and another is planned to be formed by the end of the year. The commander noted that the formation of combat support, artillery, air defense, and reconnaissance units is also continuing.
He added that many military units and subunits of the new brigade have already been formed, officers appointed, and personnel assembled.
It is known that the brigade will be deployed near Gomel – a city located about 40 kilometers from the Belarusian and Ukrainian border.
Threat from Belarus
We remind that the former commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, spoke in June about a possible attack from Belarusian territory. According to him, Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian General Staff to assess various attack scenarios, including the possibility of attacking from Belarusian territory. At the same time, O. Syrskyi noted that the Belarusian leadership is unlikely to allow its territory to be used as a springboard for aggression, although such a scenario is being considered.

President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported unusual activity near the border from the Belarusian side. He stated that the Ukrainian defense forces are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to respond if necessary. V. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is prepared to defend its people and its sovereignty, and also urged everyone involved in aggression against Ukraine to understand this.
It is also worth recalling that the Office of the President of Ukraine has asked the Prosecutor General to consider the possibility of filing a criminal case against Aliaksandr Lukashenko. As reported by Reuters, this initiative was a response to an appeal by the Belarusian opposition organization “Belarusian Democratic Forum,” accusing the dictator of complicity in Russia’s war against Ukraine and the forced deportation of at least 2,442 Ukrainian children to Belarus.
