We are constantly communicating with the services, they are working on site. We have also informed the contractors. Today, priority is given to main tasks – removing fallen trees or other obstacles to clear passages and routes. All other work will continue tomorrow,” writes the district mayor.

Due to the storm that occurred last night in Eastern Lithuania, firefighters responded 37 times to remove fallen trees, mostly in Vilnius County.

“We had the most problems in Vilnius County (…), where we had as many as 27 calls. Other regions had slightly fewer: two in Klaipėda County, five in Alytus, one in Telšiai, and two incidents recorded in Utena,” said Giedrius Vaičiulis, a specialist from the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD), to LRT radio on Sunday.

According to him, in 34 cases firefighters removed trees fallen onto the road carriageway, twice onto power lines, and once onto a building.

According to the “Energy Distribution Operator” (ESO) outage map data, currently about 5.4 thousand residents in the country are without electricity due to disruptions.

Meteorologist Elena Kliukina told the broadcaster that nearly 35 mm of rain fell in Vilnius district, almost 27 mm in Varėna district, and heavy rain also occurred in Švenčionys, Šeduva, Biržai, and Pakruojis.
