The accused, named in the report as Anatolijus B., although his surname – Blinov – had previously been published in the media, was considered detained since 2024, but the defense persistently demanded his release. The lawyer emphasized that the accused has been temporarily detained for two years, which, according to him, is the longest term for such a measure under Polish law.
Meanwhile, the prosecution requested an extension of the detention, claiming that the accused could pressure witnesses if free.
L. Volkov, in turn, claimed that Anatolijus B. is involved in document forgery, so he must remain detained.
The accused himself told the court that he did not hide in August 2024 and does not intend to flee now. His lawyer presented the judge with a lease agreement for an apartment where Anatolijus B. could live during the trial.
Finally, the court decided to soften the preventive measure and assigned police supervision to the accused – this means that the accused can remain free but must register with the supervisory authority. He must notify the supervisory authority of any change of residence and cannot leave the designated area.
The court process in the case of the attempt on L. Volkov began a week ago – on July 22.
At the start of the process, the court, considering the defense lawyer’s request, prohibited publishing the accused’s full name and photo until the verdict is announced.
At the first hearing, the court questioned the suspect. In the public part of the session, he stated that he does not admit his guilt.
After Friday’s session, L. Volkov, speaking with a “Vot Tak” journalist, welcomed the decision to release Anatolijus B. from preventive detention. He said it is unfair that a person accused of a medium-gravity crime spends two years detained.

“It is right that a person should not spend years in preventive detention for a medium-gravity crime. In a wonderful future Russia, a person will also not be held in preventive detention for years for a medium-gravity crime; in this respect, the Polish Code of Criminal Procedure is completely justified,” noted L. Volkov.
In the politician’s opinion, Anatolijus B.’s participation in the process is completely secondary. Much more interesting, according to him, is Leonid Nevzlin’s role – he is convinced that Nevzlin was the instigator of the attempt.
L. Volkov was attacked on the evening of March 12, 2024, in a car near his home in Vilnius. The attacker broke the car window, sprayed tear gas, and began beating the Russian oppositionist with a meat tenderizer. His arm was broken, and his leg was bruised.
The direct perpetrators of the attack – two Polish citizens – were detained in Poland in early April of the same year.
Anatolijus B. is accused of organizing the crime and also coordinating his actions with Leonid Nevzlin.
As BNS wrote, the attack on L. Volkov sparked a fierce war of words between the two main Russian opposition factions opposed to the Kremlin.
The Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by Alexei Navalny accused L. Nevzlin, former vice president of the oil company “Yukos” and close associate of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, of ordering the attack.
