For the 23-year-old tennis player, this was the second consecutive match in Washington where he had to play a deciding set. In the first round match against Martin Damm (ATP-104), he had a break deficit in the third set but ultimately celebrated victory as well.
“I am addicted to moments like these – such atmosphere and such duels. Washington has one of the best atmospheres on the entire ATP tour. I am just incredibly grateful for the opportunity to perform here once again on Friday evening,” Shelton said.
In the last two seasons, the home player in Washington fell in the semifinals, and his next opponent will be Chilean representative Alejandro Tabilo (ATP-30).
