A total of 13 thousand applicants were invited to universities (last year – 12.5 thousand), 8.7 thousand of them – to state-funded places (last year – 8.8 thousand).
The most popular study programs at universities are medicine, law, economics and finance, as well as psychology, civil engineering, political science.
“The trends in admission to higher education institutions remain similar to recent years. Nursing and defense studies at universities also made it into the top ten programs with the most applicants for state-funded places this year,” said the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Raminta Popovienė in a statement.
This year, among the top ten study programs with the most applicants invited to state-funded places were nursing studies at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and defense studies at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania – about 110 applicants were invited to each.
This year, 8.7 thousand applicants are invited to colleges (last year – 8.4 thousand), 4 thousand of them – to state-funded places (last year – 3.9 thousand).
Most invitations were sent to nursing and pedagogy studies. In addition, international business, social work, automotive technical operation, and civil engineering college study programs are popular.

Almost 1.6 thousand applicants are invited to pedagogy studies this year – slightly more than last year (1.5 thousand). This number of future pedagogy students is not final. Some students will still be able to choose parallel pedagogy studies, and admission to professional pedagogy studies is also ongoing, the ministry says.
It is expected that pedagogy studies will attract more than 2 thousand students in total this year.
Also, more applicants used the second competitive round this year – 800 applicants were invited to study through it (last year – 391 applicants). This additional competitive round is intended for applicants from socially sensitive backgrounds or those with practical work experience.
Applicants can sign contracts with higher education institutions until August 1 at 3 p.m.
The first stage of additional admission to higher education institutions will take place from August 4 to 7, and the second stage – from August 14 to 17.
As BNS wrote, this year study programs for general admission are offered by 15 universities (11 public and four private) and 13 colleges (seven public and six private).
