“The new electric buses will significantly improve the quality of public transport services in the Kretinga district. Until now, the Kretinga bus park only had old buses, with an average age of about 20 years, so this investment in public transport renewal was necessary,” said Antanas Kalnius, mayor of Kretinga district.”

Of the ten buses purchased, five can carry up to 56 passengers, the other five – up to 36 passengers. All buses have space for a disabled person or a child’s stroller, equipped with video surveillance cameras, air conditioners, heating and ventilation systems.
The new buses will also stand out visually: they will be decorated with drawings created by students and teachers of the Kretinga Simon Daukantas progymnasium, depicting famous Kretinga city landmarks stylized with elements of nature, along with the inscription “Kretinga – green city”.

In the first weeks of June, all buses will run on different routes, and from mid-June, some of the electric buses, which are lighter than the old Kretinga bus park buses, will carry passengers on updated routes towards Palanga via the Birutė Street bridge. The buses will run on the route that was valid until last August. The route via the Birutė Street bridge is being restored until the planned start of the bridge reconstruction works.
10 electric buses were purchased for almost 3.2 million euros, the installation of charging stations cost over 80 thousand euros, using funds from the Kretinga bus park and the European Union funds.
