In the premises of the Riflemen’s Union in Kaunas, a possible explosive device was found, and the “Shield” plan was implemented

“People were evacuated and the ‘Shield’ plan was implemented,” Kaunas County Police representative Odeta Vaitkevičienė told BNS.

Officers received the report about this find a few minutes after 11 o’clock.

“In Kaunas, on Laisvės Avenue, while employees were organizing the basement, a possible combat artillery shell was found,” said O. Vaitkevičienė.

The ‘Shield’ plan was canceled at 13:40.

“According to preliminary data, the bomb disposal experts took away the artillery shell,” said the police representative.

According to Aušra Garnienė, a representative of the Riflemen’s Union, up to 15 organization employees left the premises, and the nearby store and café were evacuated for safety.

“Previously (the premises – BNS) belonged to the Property Bank, we acquired them and were organizing them now when we found an object resembling an old-time explosive. We informed the services and are following all procedures, waiting for the ‘Aro’ bomb disposal experts to safely handle this object,” said A. Garnienė.
