M. Ivanavičius, who has long-term experience in business development, organizational transformation, implementation of large-scale strategic and nationally important infrastructure projects, and risk management, has so far led the “Litgrid” synchronization program. Previously, he also held managerial positions at “Sweco Lietuva,” where he was responsible for project management, design, and business development.

The main goal set for the new leader is to ensure the smooth and timely implementation of the “Rail Baltica” project. Today, this project is regarded not only as one of the most important European transport infrastructure projects but also as a significant link in the Baltic region’s security and military mobility.
“Currently, the active section of the ‘Rail Baltica’ works is as long as 114 kilometers, nearly 9 kilometers of European standard railway tracks have already been laid, and the production of the first switches will begin in the autumn. Lithuania is currently the furthest advanced in the implementation of the ‘Rail Baltica’ project. The new leader has been entrusted with ensuring that the project continues to be implemented according to the planned schedule, effectively managing its scope, risks, and financing,” says Arūnas Rumskas, acting CEO of the LTG group.
According to M. Ivanavičius, he is joining the project at a time when it is entering its most intensive implementation phase. “This means great responsibility and at the same time an opportunity to join the team implementing one of the most important infrastructure projects in the history of the Baltic countries. My priority is to ensure that the work proceeds smoothly, maintaining a high pace of implementation and achieving the planned goals.”

In Lithuania, the “Rail Baltica” project has already moved from the design phase to the intensive construction phase. Project management is concentrated in the hands of “LTG Infra,” with rapid execution of contracting works on the Kaunas–Panevėžys section, while simultaneously forming the future joint infrastructure management model of the Baltic countries and strengthening the project’s role as strategic civil and military mobility infrastructure.
“Rail Baltica” is the largest railway infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic countries, implemented together with the European Union. During the project, an electrified European standard railway will be laid, connecting Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia with Central and Western Europe.
