According to A. Araghchi, the Ukrainian minister assured that the strike on the Iranian ship was accidental.
“Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha assured me that the attack on the Iranian ship was accidental and Ukraine does not seek to escalate the situation,” A. Araghchi wrote on the social network “X.”
Iran’s position
The head of Iranian diplomacy stated that Tehran is also not interested in further escalation.
“Iran also does not seek escalation,” he emphasized.
However, A. Araghchi stressed that any attacks against Iranian citizens or the country’s interests are unacceptable. He added that the damage caused must be compensated.
“But I clearly said that any attack against our citizens or interests is unacceptable. The losses suffered must be compensated,” said the Iranian minister.

Context
Ukraine, responding to Iran’s statements about the possible strike on the Iranian ship, emphasized the importance of diplomacy and the need to prevent further escalation.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister A. Sybiha reported having spoken by phone with Iran’s Foreign Minister A. Araghchi. According to him, the conversation was open, and diplomacy remains the main means of direct communication even under current circumstances.
A. Sybiha also noted that Ukraine is interested in preventing the conflict from escalating further.
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that during Ukraine’s strike on a commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, one sailor was killed and another crew member was injured.
Tehran called this incident an “act of aggression” and a violation of the United Nations Charter and warned of the risk of further escalation. After the incident, Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry and handed an official protest note.
