As reported to the news portal VE.lt on July 24 by a Klaipėda resident who often visits there, the sign was removed this week.
“On July 21 it was still there, but on July 22 it was already gone,” the man said.
He noted that even after the sign was removed, drivers still stop at the crossing from both Minijos and Nendrių streets: “I observed – about every second car stops.”
Previously, there was also no STOP sign at this crossing.
When asked about these changes, the representative of the railway infrastructure company “LTG infra” stated that the STOP sign at this location is not their responsibility, but that of Klaipėda municipality.
“To our knowledge, this sign should be there, but the decision is made by the street owner – Klaipėda municipality, and we do not know their decision,” said “LTG infra” press representative Domas Jurevičius to VE.lt on Friday.
Lina Žemaitytė, head of the Transport Department of Klaipėda municipality, also states that the sign must be present at this location, and why it disappears is unclear.

“The STOP road sign is planned and installed at the railway crossing at the intersection of Nendrių and Minijos streets.
The municipality constantly maintains road signs: upon receiving reports from residents about a missing sign or noticing its absence, the sign is promptly restored.
The reasons why the sign might be removed are not determined,” she commented.
On the morning of July 25, VE.lt already received proof that the sign is back at the crossing. Residents say it appears and disappears repeatedly.
