According to criminal case data, the accused, acting jointly, stole someone else’s property. It is believed that from February to March this year, the men broke into the cash storage of car washes in various Lithuanian cities and stole the money inside. It was established that the accused accessed the coin collection terminals using metal cutting scissors and crowbars.

During the pre-trial investigation, four episodes of theft and property damage were identified in Kuršėnai, Ukmergė, Jurbarkas, and Vilkaviškis. An attempt was also made to rob a car wash located in Šiauliai.
It is suspected that the accused, after breaking the devices in self-service car washes, stole 5,900 euros in Vilkaviškis, 2,156 euros in Jurbarkas, 3,593 euros in Ukmergė, and 33 euros in Kuršėnai.
The Criminal Code provides for a fine, restriction of liberty, arrest, or imprisonment for up to six years for theft of someone else’s property. For destruction or damage to property, the Criminal Code provides for community service, a fine, restriction of liberty, or imprisonment for up to two years.

“Sometimes individuals, when stealing, especially during break-ins, destroy or damage significantly more property than they steal. Therefore, the criminal liability for such acts is correspondingly stricter. In this case, the value of the damaged property exceeds 15,000 euros.
The accused are subject to the strictest preventive measure – detention, since being free and realizing the inevitability of the impending punishment, the individuals may flee (hide) from the pre-trial investigation officers, prosecutor, or court,” says Vytautas Nacikūnas, prosecutor of the Marijampolė District Prosecutor’s Office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office, who drew up the indictment in the case.
