A turtle seen by few
In the middle of summer, a dark shell suddenly flashes in a swampy pond in Dzūkija. A European pond turtle is basking in the sun on a trunk that once fell into the water. However, frightened by the slightest sound or movement, it dives back into the muddy water without a second thought. Often, this is how a person’s encounter with the only naturally living turtle in Lithuania ends.
