“We can see with the naked eye that an attempt is being made to harm the reputation of a person who holds a high position, 10 years after defending their thesis. I do not deny the argument that this is an academic product that can be academically examined, but this must be done according to regulated procedures, whereas that public discussion is more like politicization,” D. BNS announced that this week the Academic Ethics and Procedures Controller’s Office received a complaint regarding possible plagiarism in M. Sinkevičius’s dissertation and forwarded it to ISM University of Management and Economics.
ISM, in turn, states that it will be evaluated and examined according to the procedures valid at the university, and the university’s Ethics Commission will have to decide within ten calendar days whether the complaint will be investigated.
D. Misiūnas stated that the rules valid at the time were followed when preparing the dissertation.
“Four universities were represented, the supervisor was from Vilnius University, so the competence of such a council raises no questions. As far as I could ascertain, I have reason to believe that the work was done by the doctoral student, was publicly defended, and the rules valid at the time were followed,” said the university rector.
“However, one nuance remained – the electronic version of the dissertation was not published immediately after the defense,” he added.

As BNS wrote, questions have recently been raised on social networks regarding M. Sinkevičius’s doctoral dissertation. The latest episode concerns possible plagiarism, where excerpts from other authors’ works are presented under his name.
In turn, the Prime Minister himself assured this week that he was calm, stating that he wrote the work himself, and if an investigation into the dissertation were to be launched, it would conclude favorably for him.
In 2007, M. Sinkevičius obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Business Administration from the Faculty of Economics at Vilnius University, and in 2008, he completed Bachelor’s studies in Law at Mykolas Romeris University.
In 2009, he obtained a Master’s degree in Marketing and Management at ISM University of Management and Economics, and in 2015, he defended his doctoral dissertation at the same university.
