The accident occurred in Gansu province. According to state broadcaster CCTV, a mountain torrent caused by short-term intense rainfall in Weiyuan County, Dingsi City, trapped campers.
An earlier CCTV report stated that the flood occurred in a scenic area located in the mountainous southern Gansu region, approximately 1.2 thousand kilometers southwest of Beijing.
The area is famous for its natural stone arches, mountain meadows, and streams. It is a popular summer camping site.
“The injured were sent to the hospital for treatment, and another 174 people were rescued,” CCTV reported.

A large part of southern China had issued high-level flood warnings on Sunday after Typhoon Noul reached the country early in the morning.
Parts of Gansu province, although far from Typhoon Noul’s path, also experienced heavy rainfall on Sunday, with local authorities issuing weather warnings across the province.
