Students of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme also delight with excellent achievements – their final works were evaluated with another 67 highest scores. In total, Kaunas counts 312 perfect scores this year.

Exceeded the national average
Kaunas entered this year from a strong position – in 2025, Kaunas students’ VBE achievements were the highest in Lithuania. Comparing Kaunas city results with national indicators, in many main state maturity exams, the proportion of Kaunas students who passed was higher than the Lithuanian average.
The Lithuanian language and literature A course exam in Kaunas was passed by 99.2 percent of candidates (nationally – 97.5 percent), mathematics A course – 88 percent (nationally – 85.1 percent), informatics – 98.9 percent (nationally – 97 percent), and English language – 96.5 percent (nationally – 95.4 percent).
“The results speak for themselves. Young Kaunas residents remain at the top with the best results in Lithuania. All this shows that the city’s targeted investments in education are paying off. Behind these numbers lies a huge contribution from students, teachers, parents, and the entire educational community.
Our goal is not only to celebrate achievements today but also to continue creating an education system that provides every child with the best opportunities to unleash their potential,” said Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.
Shower of perfect scores
Kaunas graduates earned 245 perfect scores in the main VBE session, and another 67 in the International Baccalaureate program. In total, Kaunas boasts 312 highest evaluations this year.
Most perfect scores were obtained from informatics (60), Lithuanian language and literature (51), mathematics (50), and English language (45) exams. The highest evaluations were also received in geography (15), chemistry (8), history (8), physics (5), and biology (1) exams.
The results of the young people also stood out significantly on a national scale. Almost a third of all perfect scores in Lithuanian language and literature A course went to Kaunas residents, more than a quarter – in informatics, a quarter – in chemistry, almost a quarter – to students who took the mathematics A course exam. They particularly excelled in physics – Kaunas residents earned half of all perfect scores awarded in this subject nationwide.
The graduates themselves also achieved impressive individual results. One student from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Gymnasium counts six perfect scores, another – five. Four perfect scores were collected by three, three by fourteen, and two by 35 Kaunas graduates.
The most maximum scores were earned by students from Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas “Saulė”, Kaunas Jesuit, Vytautas Magnus University “Rasa”, Kaunas Jonas Jablonskis, Kaunas “Vyturys”, Kaunas John Paul II Gymnasiums, and Kaunas University of Technology Engineering Lyceum.
City’s gratitude
Since 2016, Kaunas honors graduates who achieved the best VBE results with a symbolic sign of hard work and perseverance – the “Šimtukininkas” (Perfect Scorer) award. It is presented to students who have earned at least three perfect scores. 100 euros are awarded for each perfect score.

Last year, the conditions for awarding the prize were updated. From now on, not only students but also teachers who have prepared at least three perfect scorers are awarded. The amount of the monetary gift depends on the number of graduates who achieved the highest evaluations and ranges from 100 to 500 euros.
Graduates and their educators will be honored during a solemn ceremony on July 30 at “Mokslo sala” (Science Island) (Karaliaus Mindaugo pr. 50).
Investments in mathematics
Mathematics results in Kaunas have been consistently improving for five years. This area remains one of the most important directions for the city’s education. Compared to last year, the results of the mathematics A course improved, and the proportion of those who failed the B course exam decreased by almost half.
Aiming to strengthen mathematics education, the municipality consistently develops the “MatLab” laboratory, which helps students deepen their mathematical knowledge, solve more complex tasks, develop logical thinking, and strengthen confidence in their abilities.
Additional consultations are organized in educational institutions, classes are divided into smaller groups, teacher initiatives are gathered, and the educational process is supplemented by modern digital tools.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the digital platform “Elicėjus” and the adaptive testing system “PROTAU” were introduced. They allow educators to monitor each student’s progress, identify knowledge gaps, adapt individual tasks, and provide necessary assistance in a timely manner.
STEAM education and natural sciences
Kaunas also invests in natural sciences and STEAM education in parallel. Natural science laboratories have been renovated in all general education institutions in the city, and the Millennium Schools program supplemented them with modern equipment for STEAM, robotics, information technology, and engineering activities. With their help, students can conduct experiments, research, form hypotheses, and test their abilities.
Additional opportunities are provided by the Kaunas Methodological STEAM Center operating on “Mokslo sala” (Science Island). It is equipped with biology and chemistry, physics and engineering, robotics, and smart city laboratories. In them, students can get acquainted with these branches of science more closely through practical experience, and teachers can strengthen their educational competencies.
Proven initiatives will be continued in the future. They will be supplemented by new measures, including the initiative of Kaunas 1st Music School to integrate mathematical elements into music education, the “Slenkstiados” organized by the Kaunas Education Innovation Center, and other activities aimed at reducing student achievement gaps.
