The requirements have been tightened due to United Airlines implementing SpaceX’s Starlink high-speed internet on its planes. This allows passengers to watch live streams and play online games directly during the flight.

With the expansion of Starlink, it seemed like the right time to make this even clearer by including the requirement in the contract of carriage,” United Airlines representatives noted in a comment to the “New York Post”.
The company’s management emphasizes that the new measures are aimed at ensuring passenger comfort, not at restricting entertainment.
Flight attendants will continue to distribute wired headphones for free on board, and new aircraft cabins are equipped with screens with Bluetooth support for connecting personal wireless headphones.
