“Actually, he looks really promising in training,” the 35-year-old namesake and surname-sake, world and European champion, and “Diamond League” winner, told 15min portal about his 14-year-old son Andrius Gudžius.

A. Gudžius Jr., who currently throws a discus twice as light as men’s – 1 kg – already won the Kaunas youth championship last year (38.55 m).
This year, at the Lithuanian throwing championship, the result already grew to 41.50 m, and young Gudžius took third place.
Both Gudžius are trained by the same specialist – Vaclovas Kidykas, the bronze medalist of the 1986 European Championship.

“I don’t interfere too much. He gets a bit more nervous around his father (smiles). Of course, sometimes we train together. It’s fun. But he feels more at ease with the coach, and with his father, he still wants to perform better, do better,” A. Gudžius shared.
“– That’s how we train. Little by little. Of course, I’d like him to be able to go to the European Junior Championship in a couple of years. Because he was born in autumn, his age is not favorable for junior competitions – that half-year still makes a big difference, but later, in men’s competitions, it means nothing.”
