As the Government Chancellery announced on Tuesday, during the conversation, M. Sinkevičius also emphasized Vilnius’ support for Kyiv in its pursuit of the fastest possible country’s membership in the European Union (EU), the importance of cooperation in the field of defense, and the adoption of valuable Ukrainian experience.

“Lithuania supported Ukraine even before Russia’s full-scale military invasion and, you can be sure, we will continue to support it. Because we perfectly understand that today Ukraine is defending not only its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, but also that the security of all of Europe depends on the outcome of this war,” the Prime Minister said.
“No less important is that today both Lithuania and other countries have much to learn from Ukraine, strengthening cooperation in the field of defense and adopting invaluable experience. I have no doubt that our governments will give priority attention to this, and when Lithuania takes over the presidency of the EU Council next year, Ukraine will occupy a very important place on the presidency’s agenda,” he said.
It is reported that during the conversation, the necessity to further increase pressure on Russia was also discussed – to strengthen sanctions and international isolation, prevent their circumvention, and seek accountability for the aggressor for the crimes committed.
It is stated that, as before, Lithuania will contribute to strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s energy sector – this is extremely important as winter approaches and Russia carries out targeted destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Among other things, the Government emphasizes that it is important to continue strengthening partnerships that would contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction, economic recovery, increased resilience, and integration into the EU.
