In the Curonian Lagoon – the 15th traditional and historical ships regatta "Burpilis"

Up to 12 traditional wooden sailing ships will compete in it. This year’s event is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Martynas Liudvikas Rėza, a researcher of the culture of the Curonian Lagoon Lithuanians.

The regatta will feature kurėnai, venterinės boats, vytinės, reisinė, sielininkų boat, ungurinė, and Viking Age ships.

The first stage, named after Eduardo Jonušas, a promoter of the Curonian Lagoon culture, which will take place in front of Nida, will start on Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, the ships will sail from Nida to Kintai in the stage named after Ernst Wilhelm Berbom, the chief fishing inspector of the Curonian Lagoon, on Thursday – from Kintai to Juodkrantė in the stage named after historian and traditional Curonian Lagoon navigation researcher Romaldas Adomavičius, and on Friday the regatta will conclude with the Sea Festival stage from Juodkrantė to Klaipėda.

Upon reaching Klaipėda, the regatta participants will join the Sea Festival events and the centenary celebration of Lithuanian maritime sailing. On Saturday, the regatta awards and a night parade of traditional and historical ships on the Danė River are scheduled.
