As the Facebook account “Weather and Climate in Lithuania” posts, meteorologist Gytis Valaika states that Monday’s weather in Lithuania is influenced by a southern cyclone.
The weather is cool, but still not everywhere is gray and rainy. Many parts of the country have seen the sun – mostly in southern Lithuania, but it also peeked through the clouds around Vilnius.
However, it is not so good everywhere. For example, in Samogitia the situation is completely different.
“So far, the most rain has been measured in the region around Telšiai, where more than half of the July monthly precipitation norm has fallen since this morning.
It is very close to the formal threshold of torrential rain (when intensity reaches ≥50 mm in ≤12 hours). It is no surprise that with heavy rain, water does not soak in and accumulates even on the grass,” says G. Valaika.
He also shared a video from another Samogitian district – Mažeikiai, where it is also raining very heavily, and “lakes” stand around homesteads.
Internet users in the group “Weather Enthusiasts” share that a huge amount of precipitation has also fallen in Akmenė, Joniškis, Pasvalys.
According to current radar data from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (“Meteo LT”), the rain is retreating – it should only rain in the northernmost districts, near the Latvian border.
However, it will still rain in the coming days.
As “Meteo LT” reports, on Tuesday night there will be brief rain in some places. Some fog. Wind variable direction, 4–9 m/s. Temperature 8–13, 14–16 degrees Celsius in the Curonian Spit. During the day, rain will fall in many places, mostly short showers. In some places, heavy rain with thunder. Wind south, southwest, turning to northwest, 7–12 m/s, gusts 15–20 m/s on the coast. On Wednesday, brief rain in many places. Wind northwest, west, 7–12 m/s, gusts 15–18 m/s on the coast at night. Temperature at night 10–15, during the day 17–22 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, short showers in many places, locally heavy with thunder. Wind variable direction, weak at night, 5–10 m/s during the day. Temperature at night 10–15, during the day 17–22 degrees Celsius.
