The Spanish national team, which demonstrated dominant football throughout the entire tournament, dethroned Argentina led by Lionel Messi 1-0 in extra time in the World Cup final and climbed to the top of the world for the second time in history.
After the final referee’s whistle announcing the triumph of Luis de la Fuente’s trainees, a very telling message from Lithuania’s most famous basketball coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius on the social network “Facebook”.
“Spain once again showed how important the federation is… From the top to a 6-year-old kid!!!”, wrote probably the most influential basketball figure in the country.
Š. Jasikevičius shared this message on his personal “Facebook” account but allowed the 15min portal to republish it.
This is an allusion to the recently much-discussed events in Lithuanian basketball.

After another failure of the national team in the World Championship qualifiers, discussions began not only about the head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis but also about the seat of Mindaugas Balčiūnas, president of the “Lithuanian Basketball” association.
Public criticism of M. Balčiūnas has recently been voiced by Kaunas “Žalgiris” owner Paulius Motiejūnas, Jonas Mačiulis, Benas Matkevičius, Andrius Tapinas, Gitanas Nausėda.
On the other hand, the “Lithuanian Basketball” association shared a letter from organizations supporting M. Balčiūnas and M. Balčiūnas himself publicly responded.
