The “B Tribūna” fan organization of the “Rytas” basketball club applied to the municipality for the installation of a memorial sign. According to them, in 17 years, the only Lithuanian basketball club won a European title.
According to the project, the “Rytas” victory should be commemorated with an artistic drawing at the entrance to the tunnel on Geležinio Vilko Street.
It would have the inscription “Champion Rytas Vilnius Badalona,” the club emblem, and a player holding the champions’ trophy.
“According to tradition, this is a street art project commemorating the champions’ trophy, the championship title, and the place where the trophy was won,” explained Rūta Matonienė, head of the City Aesthetics Department of the municipality.

The project would be financed and organized by the initiators themselves.
“Let’s admit, this is an important event for both the team, its fans, and all Vilnius residents. I think it is also important for the city to support ‘B Tribūna’ with their initiatives,” said the commission chair Kamilė Gogelienė.
Municipal council member Diana Stomienė suggested installing the sign temporarily, recording the time until which this street art piece should remain, as its quality will deteriorate over time, and it is unclear who will maintain it.
Another council member, Povilas Pinelis, said that the event is definitely worth commemorating; it is an important title for Lithuanian basketball. According to him, this drawing would color the city with the “right colors.”
Vilnius “Rytas” won the FIBA Champions League trophy for the first time in history in May, defeating Tenerife’s “La Laguna” and Athens’ AEK in the final four.
