“Slug collecting championship.
The 22nd Žagarė Cherry Festival “VIVA ŽAGARĖ” is coming very soon and will take place from July 16-19!
This year we invite you to contribute to nature conservation and together reduce the population of invasive environmental inhabitants – invasive slugs (Spanish arions).
Invasive slugs are spreading rapidly, devastating our gardens, orchards, local vegetation, and most importantly – displacing species native to our nature. Every slug collected is a small but important step in protecting local nature.
How to participate?
Bring the slugs collected in your yard or garden on July 18 (Saturday) from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM to the Knowledge Space (Žagarė recreational area near Žvelgaičiai Lake, S. Daukanto St. 129).
Each participant who delivers at least 1 liter of collected slugs will receive two invitations to the evening concerts of the Žagarė Cherry Festival by Žvelgaičiai Lake.
The collected slugs will not go to waste – they will become a delicious feast for mallard ducks, which simply adore these pesky pests!
Don’t forget to wear gloves and follow hygiene requirements when collecting slugs.
Together we can do much more! Let’s contribute to invasive species control, protect our gardens, orchards, and nature, and at the same time enjoy the activities of the Žagarė Cherry Festival.
