Firefighters with boats from Šilutė and Saugai arrived at the accident site. A diver team from Klaipėda was called.

The circumstances of the accident also became clear. On Friday, two couples spent time in the forest. They ate and drank alcoholic beverages in a gazebo. On a hot day, they decided to go for a swim.
One couple decided to go look for a better access point to the lake. When they returned from swimming, they found their friend crying on the shore. The woman began to tell that she started drowning while swimming. The man tried to save her, and they clung to each other.
The woman managed to reach the shore; her partner drowned.
The emergency services called could no longer help – the man’s body was pulled from the lake.
