This will be his first trip since he resigned from the junta leadership and became a civilian leader.
Myanmar became an outcast state after the 2021 military coup, when the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi was overthrown and civil war broke out.
However, junta leader Min Aung Hlaing was appointed civilian president in April after highly limited elections, and neighboring Thailand took the initiative to start normalizing relations.
“The best thing is to bring Myanmar back into the community,” said Thailand’s Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow at a press conference in Bangkok.
“We think that after five years we have to talk, we have to listen, and they have to explain,” he added.

Later he confirmed to AFP that Min Aung Hlaing will visit Thailand in August and that this will be his first trip to the neighboring country since the change of office.
“We are preparing an official program,” said the minister.
The news of the visit came after an informal meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers, which includes 11 members including Myanmar, was held in Thailand on Sunday.
This was the first such meeting since the coup, after which this regional bloc diplomatically isolated Myanmar.
This month Min Aung Hlaing visited Laos – it was his first state visit to any ASEAN country since he became a civilian leader. Last month he visited India and China.
