Private creditors benefited the most
In total, nearly 158 million euros of debts were repaid to private individuals and legal entities over six months. This is 37.8 million euros, or 31.5%, more than in the same period of 2025. 31.5 million euros were recovered for the state – 7% more compared to the first half of last year.
Among the creditors who recovered debts are about 17 thousand individuals, about 3.8 thousand private legal entities, and about 290 budgetary institutions (State Tax Inspectorate, Sodra, customs, etc.).
Maintenance (so-called alimony) recovery by periodic payments was carried out for the benefit of more than 30 thousand creditors.
Auctions – a rarity
The largest amount – more than 3 million euros of debt and interest – was repaid to a private limited company, for which the SPA complex “Stebuklai SPA” in Nida, mortgaged as collateral, was sold at auction. More than 1.5 million euros were also recovered in the same way for a credit union: administrative premises belonging to the indebted company in Vilnius Šeimyniškių Street were sold at auction.
Despite individual high-value sales, the realization of debtor assets at auctions remains a rare debt recovery method. Of all 79.7 thousand successfully completed recovery processes, only 0.5% of cases involved debts being covered by selling debtor assets at auctions, while the majority of debts were recovered from debtor income and other funds. In the first half of 2026, 400 auctions announced by bailiffs took place.
The positive impact on debt recovery results was influenced by some debtors’ decision to withdraw funds accumulated in second-pillar pension funds. This increased cases where debts could be recovered from funds in bank accounts, as well as the amounts actually recovered. The share of successfully completed recovery processes, in which creditor claims were fully satisfied, reached 69% in the first half of this year – 14% more than in the same period last year.
However, this improvement may be temporary, as almost all legal reliefs that slow down recovery for debtors remain in effect: reduced income deductions and “debt holidays,” except for “debt holidays” recognized as unconstitutional in cases of alimony recovery.
The amount of new debts is increasing, more claims are submitted by European creditors
In the first half of this year, bailiffs received 117.1 thousand new claims to recover debts and enforce other decisions. This figure is 2.5% lower compared to the first half of 2025.

However, the total amount of new debts increased by 3.2% and reached 348.1 million euros. The average statistical debt submitted to bailiffs for recovery in the first half of this year was 2,947 euros, 6% higher than a year ago.
There was a significant increase in claims from creditors from other European countries to recover debts in Lithuania. In the first half of the year, 944 European enforcement documents were received, 43% more compared to the corresponding period last year. The amount of new debts claimed by European creditors increased by 24% and reached 112.3 million euros.
The growth in claimed amounts, despite the decrease in the number of new debts, indicates that bailiffs are more often approached for larger debts, while forced recovery processes for relatively small amounts are started less frequently. For example, debts up to 100 euros submitted to bailiffs in the first half of this year were 12% fewer (a total of 32.4 thousand) than in the same period last year.
The total amount of claimed debts (submitted over all periods) also continued to grow. On June 30, 2026, it amounted to 5.34 billion euros, 5% more than a year ago.
Fewer new debtors
68.3 thousand – this is the number of individuals for whom creditors applied to bailiffs for unpaid debts in the first half of 2026. Compared to the same period in 2025, this is 1.5% less. Among the new debtors are 64 thousand individuals and 4.3 thousand legal entities, including budgetary institutions and organizations.
The total number of individuals with debts collected by bailiffs also decreased by almost 2%. At the end of June this year, there were 236.1 thousand, compared to 240.3 thousand a year ago. This indicates a positive trend – some individuals manage to settle with creditors independently.
In total, in the first half of 2026, Lithuanian bailiff offices conducted 1.58 million debt recovery and other enforcement processes started at various times. Of these, 779.9 thousand processes were carried out at the request of state institutions, and 803.9 thousand at the initiative of private individuals and legal entities.
