Compulsory initial military service in KASP units can be performed by university and college students, as well as former students previously included in the conscription lists. This form of service can also be applied to individuals for whom performing regular service and sudden termination of civilian obligations due to the nature of the service would cause significant harm.

Conscripts’ applications are individually reviewed by a selection committee. After assessing the person’s life circumstances and submitted arguments, it decides whether a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania can perform compulsory initial military service in the National Defence Volunteer Forces. This form of service can also be offered by KASP and the Military Conscription and Recruitment Service to conscripts who apply for a postponement of the usual nine-month compulsory military service for important reasons.

Service that can be combined with civilian life

The National Defence Volunteer Forces remain one of the most flexible forms of service in the Lithuanian Armed Forces, providing the opportunity to combine military service with studies, work, and other civilian life commitments.

For PPKT soldiers serving in KASP, military training will take place from 30 to 50 days per year. Exercises will mostly be organized on weekends, following the KASP military training model. After serving for three years, soldiers will be credited with completed compulsory initial military service.

During the basic soldier course and further service, soldiers will learn military disciplines essential for every soldier and acquire practical skills. They will gain and deepen knowledge in drill, tactics, weaponry and shooting, military engineering, topography, and other areas of military training.

More prepared citizens for Lithuania’s defense

The National Defence Volunteer Forces have been significantly contributing to the country’s general defense for the fourth decade, training volunteer soldiers and active reserve soldiers.

Today, the Volunteer Forces are ready to provide service opportunities to PPKT soldiers as well. The new service model will help create conditions for more citizens of the Republic of Lithuania to gain military readiness and contribute to the state’s defense.

Individuals interested in this form of compulsory initial military service and meeting the initial criteria for service are invited to contact their regional Lithuanian Armed Forces Military Conscription and Recruitment Service unit for more information.
