A. Iraola moves to Liverpool after three seasons at ‘Bournemouth’ club. In the last season, the modest team, by English ‘Premier’ League standards, took sixth place and for the first time secured a ticket to Europe – they will play in the UEFA Europa League.
“I’m very, very excited. I know how big a club ‘Liverpool’ is – it’s simply huge, one of the biggest in the world,” said A. Iraola. “I always thought it was a special club. It doesn’t take much to attract ‘Liverpool’s’ attention. ‘Liverpool’ is ‘Liverpool’. But of course, the atmosphere, the fans, the club, the players, the opportunity to work with top-level footballers and compete for titles – few things can compare to such an opportunity. I can’t wait to start.”
A. Iraola is a former footballer, who represented Bilbao ‘Athletic’ club more than 500 times over 12 seasons. He played seven matches for the Spanish national team, and at the end of his career in 2015-2016, he played for ‘New York City FC’.

He began his coaching career with AEK Larnaca, with whom he won the Cypriot Super Cup, and later moved to ‘Mirandes’, which played in the second Spanish league, and worked for ‘Rayo Vallecano’, which he returned to the Spanish ‘La Liga’ championship.
Last season, A. Iraola’s coached ‘Bournemouth’ went undefeated for 18 consecutive matches and showed the best performance in the entire ‘Premier’ League in the second half of the season.
‘Liverpool’ will try to reclaim the lost ‘Premier’ League title next season, having finished only fourth with A. Slot at the helm in the 2025-2026 campaign.
