According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (“Meteo LT”), the temperature in Lithuania during the first half of September was higher than the long-term average (the average for the period 1991–2020).

“The average air temperature in Vilnius from September 1–15 was 14.9 °C, and in Klaipėda 16.7 °C (anomalies were +0.9 and +1.4 degrees, respectively). During the past half of the month, 10 days in Vilnius and all 15 days in Klaipėda were warmer than the average for the period 1991–2020.
The warmest days in Lithuania on average were September 8–9 and 14–15, and the coolest were September 12–13,” reports “Meteo LT”.
Regarding precipitation, the first half of the month was much wetter than the long-term average, especially in Vilnius and Klaipėda: “Currently (over the past 15 days) the country has reached 105% of the monthly norm (~63 mm). In Vilnius (Trakų Vokė) 49.7 mm was measured (87% of the September norm), and in Klaipėda – 76.7 mm (97% of the norm).
The total monthly precipitation norm in the capital is 57 mm, and in the port city – 79 mm.”
It was precisely the rain that caused the sunshine duration in Lithuania to be slightly less than half the long-term value for the month (47%). In Vilnius, 45% of the norm was reached, and in Klaipėda – 46%.
What next? According to currently published forecasts, this week will end with drier and warmer weather, and the next will begin with rain and a significant drop in temperature.
However, meteorologists also have good news – based on current calculations, the temperature in the second half of the month will be higher. However, the amount of precipitation is expected to be higher than the average for the period 1991–2020.
According to the expert forecast for the coming month, overall in September, the air temperature in Lithuania will be up to one degree higher than the long-term average, and precipitation – about 35% more.
As for the first half of October, it is forecasted to be much drier – the amount of precipitation is expected to be up to 20% less than the long-term norm. The temperature should be about half a degree higher than the long-term average.
Meteorologist Elvyra Latvėnaitė reports that on Friday, September 18, there will be intermittent rain – mostly at night in the western districts, during the day light rain in many places, heavier in the western districts in the evening. Wind from the south at 5-10 m/s at night, 6-11 m/s during the day, 8-13 m/s in the western districts. Night temperatures 7-11°C, 12-14°C in the western districts, about 16°C on the coast, daytime 17-20°C.
On Saturday, September 19, intermittent rain, mostly in the western and northern districts during the day. Wind at night from the south and southwest, during the day southwest at 7-12 m/s, gusts 15-17 m/s, strongest on the coast. Night temperatures 10-14°C, warmest in the western edge, about 16°C on the coast, daytime 18-21°C, coolest in the western and northwestern districts, warmest in the southern and southeastern districts.
On Sunday, September 20, no significant rain at night, intermittent rain in some places in the morning and early day, clouds of heavier rain moving from the western districts across Lithuania to the east by midday. Wind southwest at 7-12 m/s, gusts 15-17 m/s. Night temperatures 10-14°C, warmest in the western edge, about 16°C on the coast, daytime 17-21°C.
On Monday, September 21, rain at night, heavy in the southern and eastern districts in the morning and early day, intermittent rain with occasional thunderstorms in many places by midday. Wind at night from the west and southwest at 7-12 m/s, during the day from the west and northwest at 4-8 m/s, 7-12 m/s on the coast. Night temperatures 10-13°C, 14-16°C on the coast, daytime 14-17°C.
On Tuesday, September 22, no significant rain at night, fog will spread at night and morning, intermittent light rain in some places during the day. Wind variable at night 4-8 m/s, from the north at 7-12 m/s during the day. Night temperatures 6-9°C, 10-13°C on the coast, daytime 15-18°C.
On Wednesday, September 23, starting with the southeastern and eastern districts, heavy rain clouds will move across Lithuania to the west. Wind from the north and northeast at 7-12 m/s, gusts up to 15 m/s. Night temperatures 9-11°C, daytime 14-17°C.
