According to police data, on September 14 at about 23:55, a car stopped for inspection on Dariaus and Girėno Street was driven by a 45-year-old resident of Tauragė.

When officers asked to open the rear trunk, 842 packs of “NZ Gold” cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were found in the bags inside.
Upon a more detailed inspection of the car, it turned out that special hiding places were also installed in it. Another 658 packs of the same cigarettes were found there.

In total, 1500 packs of cigarettes not marked with excise stamps of the Republic of Lithuania were found in the Ford car. Their value is about 8250 euros.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched regarding the incident under Article 199², Part 1 of the Criminal Code. Illegal possession of excise goods may result in a fine or imprisonment for up to six years.
