On this special occasion, the mayor of Panevėžys district municipality Antanas Pocius, the head of the Civil Registry and Archives Department of the Municipality Rūta Rudė, and the deputy of the Krekenava elder Violeta Naulickienė came to congratulate the anniversary celebrants, according to a press release from the Panevėžys district municipality.

I sincerely congratulate you on reaching the honorable golden wedding anniversary and wish you many more years filled with health, peace, and the warmth of loved ones,” said the mayor of Panevėžys district A. Pocius while congratulating the jubilarians.
Irena, originally from Pakruojis district, was unexpectedly led to Krekenava by her career path. The woman, who had worked her entire life in the field of education, moved to work as a kindergarten teacher, which was needed in the town at that time. Antanas from Krekenava, who lived just a few dozen meters from Irena, noticed the beautiful stranger – the friendship that started in the neighborhood eventually culminated in marriage. The family raised two children – a son and a daughter, and today they enjoy their granddaughter and cozy family gatherings.
Talking about a marriage lasting half a century, Irena and Antanas highlight the most important values that helped maintain a strong bond.

“Over so many years, we have become convinced that the most important foundation of a strong family is mutual respect. You need to be able to understand a person, accept their nature, be patient, and sometimes just give in. After all, we are all different, we have our own character, so living together requires adapting to each other. It is precisely respect, patience, and understanding that help maintain a harmonious relationship throughout life,” say Irena and Antanas.
The spouses were presented with a framed copy of the marriage certificate – a symbolic reminder of the promise made fifty years ago and the life path walked together.
