The 29-year-old German became only the fourth tennis player in the Open Era to win his first two Grand Slam titles in one season. It is worth recalling that in early June, Sascha triumphed at the Roland Garros tournament in Paris.
“I want to thank my team. We hadn’t won a Grand Slam title in 30 years, and now we’ve won two within a three-month period. I think God saw how hard we worked, how much we suffered, and 2026 is the reward for all that,” said the champion.
By the way, the end of the final was somewhat comical – a confused A. Zverev only realized a few moments later that he had become the US Open winner.
In the Open Era, among German representatives, only he and the legendary Boris Becker have managed to win at least two Grand Slam tournaments in one season.
Based on the ATP ranking points earned this year, Sascha is now confidently in first place, leading Jannik Sinner by 700 points. Since this season’s points will determine the final ranking at the end of the season, the German has excellent chances to finish the year at the top of the ATP rankings.

For his part, B. Shelton reached his first career Grand Slam final.
The 23-year-old American aimed to become the first from his country since Andy Roddick (2003) to win a Grand Slam trophy.
Although he did not succeed, B. Shelton earned 2.8 million USD and 1300 ATP ranking points, which will move him up to a record fourth position in the new ATP rankings.
The US Open champion’s run will be rewarded with a total prize of 5.5 million USD and 2000 ATP ranking points.
A. Zverev won the most Grand Slam tournaments on the ATP tour this year – two. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner each triumphed once.
