The first EU and Ukraine drone alliance meeting took place in Brussels

The European Commission (EC) announced the Drone Alliance this July at the defense industry forum in Kyiv. It brings together key industry partners whose mission is to develop the drone industry across Europe and Ukraine.

EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius explained at the start of the industry meeting that Europe must learn from Ukraine to fight the drone war, and in return can offer Kyiv “excellent defense technologies and continental scale.”

Among the participating companies is Bavaria’s Quantum Systems. Its vice president Matthias Lehna shared in an opinion piece with The Kyiv Independent that the alliance “is not a symbolic gesture.”

“Its founders – nine EU companies and nine Ukrainian companies – form a thoughtful structure” that “will shape the entire industry’s strategic vision and priorities – from technical standards to joint production programs,” said M. Lehna.

A. Kubilius named six priorities that the Drone Alliance must implement, including accelerating the creation of EU and Ukrainian joint ventures, as well as prototype testing and development.
