Early September on the roads: risk is increased not only by heavier traffic

According to Tomas Lizūnas, the head of the transport product at the “Balcia” group, drivers often underestimate that car damage can be caused not only by traffic accidents but also by everyday, harder-to-predict situations.

“Data shows that damage to cars is not uncommon. It is also important that cars suffer not only during traffic. Drivers have to deal with glass damage, collisions with animals, vandalism, or consequences caused by adverse weather conditions. This shows that even with careful driving, not all losses can be avoided, so being prepared for various situations on the road is no less important than safe driving,” says Tomas Lizūnas.

The most common cause of damage – traffic accidents

A survey conducted on behalf of “Balcia” revealed that the most common reason for claiming KASKO insurance compensation is traffic accidents. They were indicated by 26.3% of respondents. With the start of the autumn season, minor damages, issues in parking lots, or accidents in traffic jams often become the cause of car damage.

In second place by frequency were glass damages, indicated by 17.9% of respondents. Often, such damage is caused by stones or other small objects flying from the road surface, and it is not always possible to avoid them.

The survey results showed that besides traffic accidents and glass damage, drivers often have to deal with damage caused by animals or vandalism. Meanwhile, car theft, damage caused by storms and fallen objects, car flooding, or fires are mentioned much less frequently. However, even such cases can cause significant losses and require considerable repair costs.

Drivers do not always know what help they can expect

Although much attention is paid to safe driving, it is no less important to know in advance what actions to take in case of a technical failure, a traffic accident, or other unforeseen circumstances.
According to Tomas Lizūnas, drivers are often surprised to learn that additional services can be provided together with mandatory car insurance, so it is worth checking what help can be expected in case of problems on the road.

“Drivers often regard mandatory car insurance only as a formal requirement, but it can also provide practically useful services. For example, some drivers are surprised to learn that roadside assistance can be provided together with mandatory car insurance, which is often associated only with KASKO insurance. If help is needed, it is important to know where to turn and what services can be used,” says T. Lizūnas.

The expert points out that the autumn season is a good time not only to take care of the car’s technical condition but also to review your insurance terms. Clear knowledge of where to seek help and what services are available can help resolve issues faster, save time, and avoid additional stress.
