One of the most important issues should be a possible NBA proposal to take over the Euroleague. It is expected that more specific conditions of such a scenario will become clear after the NBA club owners’ meeting on Monday.
If the Euroleague clubs decide to reject the NBA proposal, then the focus of the October 5th meeting should shift to the league’s own restructuring and a complete transition to a franchise model.
In July, NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated that he sees the possibility for both organizations to cooperate and gradually create a more unified European basketball ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Euroleague CEO Jordi Bertomeu emphasized in an interview with “Reuters” last week that any possible agreement with the NBA should be beneficial to both parties.

Already in August, the Euroleague officially announced plans to expand the franchise model. According to the planned system, 21 clubs should receive permanent, non-transferable licenses to compete in the tournament in the future.
Out of several dozen candidates, 12 clubs have already been selected, and eight of them should become new permanent Euroleague members.
It is expected that it will be on October 5th by Lake Como that it will be revealed which teams will receive this status – unless the league’s future plans are fundamentally changed by a possible NBA proposal before then.
