About the integration of “Sting” into “MAGURA MV11” was reported on September 6 by the Ukrainian publication “Militarnyj”, based on information provided by the drone manufacturing company “Wild Hornets”.

According to “Wild Hornets”, “Sting” drones and their communication systems were specially upgraded to operate in a maritime environment. The “Militarnyj” portal indicated that this work took quite a long time, but it was not publicly announced at the request of the military.

It is also important that the system has already been used in combat conditions. According to “Wild Hornets”, the first targets were intercepted by “Sting” drones launched from unmanned naval drones as early as spring. Later, the company continued to improve the interceptors themselves, their launch platform, and communication systems.

Launched vertically

As “Defence Industry Europe” writes, separate launch sections are installed on the “MAGURA MV11” naval drone, from which “Sting” drones take off vertically. The publicly demonstrated configuration was equipped with 18 such interceptors.

This solution allows “Sting” drones to be launched not from land, but from a mobile platform at sea. This provides the ability to move the interception point further from the shore and potentially cover areas that would not be reached by anti-drone teams deployed only on land.

“Defence Industry Europe” notes that such a system could primarily be used against Russian “Shahed”-type attack drones flying over coastal territories and the Black Sea.

“Sting” adapted to operate from the sea

“Militarnyj” reports that one of the most important elements of the integration is the digital communication system “Hornet Vision” developed by “Wild Hornets”. It uses an omnidirectional antenna providing 360-degree coverage.

According to “Militarnyj”, this solution can be installed on the platform to maintain stable communication without using an additional rotating mechanism required when using directional antennas. The system was also updated to operate under challenging maritime conditions.

Another important component is the “Hornet Vision Ctrl” remote control system. It quickly transmits operator commands and allows operators to control high-speed intercept drones launched from a moving naval drone platform.

The largest drone in the “UFORCE” family

“MAGURA MV11” is the largest representative of the unmanned naval drone family created by the defense startup “Uforce”. The 12-meter-long platform was publicly shown for the first time on August 24 at a parade held in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Unlike previous “Magura” models, the MV11 was primarily designed as a transport platform and carrier of other unmanned systems. According to the “Militarnyj” portal, this device has a payload capacity of 2200 kg and can operate autonomously for up to seven days in open sea.

“Defence Industry Europe” additionally notes that the platform’s internal volume is about 10 cubic meters, and the declared operational range exceeds 2,000 nautical miles.

Such characteristics allow the MV11 to be used not only as a strike naval drone but also as a mobile base for other unmanned systems. “Militarnyj” emphasizes that one of the most important features of the platform is the ability to launch a larger number of other drones directly from its naval drone platform.

Mobile air defense point at sea

The integration of “Sting” essentially gives the “MAGURA MV11” a new function – it can be used as a mobile air defense platform. Instead of waiting for Russian drones to approach the coast and land-based air defense systems, interceptors can be launched from a ship at sea.

According to “Defence Industry Europe”, such a concept would allow Ukraine to deploy interception capabilities along possible Russian drone flight routes over the Black Sea and coastal approaches.

This is especially relevant in fighting relatively inexpensive and widely used Russian strike drones. “Sting” is a high-speed interceptor drone developed by “Wild Hornets” to destroy enemy unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the manufacturer’s published data, it can reach speeds up to 280 km/h, ascend to an altitude of 7,000 meters, and operate up to 37 kilometers depending on configuration and conditions.

“Militarnyj” meanwhile draws attention to the broader purpose of the MV11: the platform can be used for reconnaissance, surveillance, support during landing operations, as well as fuel and equipment supply to other Ukrainian naval drones.
